Job Summary: The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is seeking a well-qualified employee whose diverse background reflects an ability to serve the over 1.4 million residents of the Bronx County and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Bronx County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a Legal Supervisor to assist the Chief of Professional Staff Training and Development in training the professional and legal staff. Responsible for creating trainings to assist staff’s professional and personal development, scheduling staff for trainings, create attendance sheets, lecture, record attendance and ensure training databases are updated documenting the attendance of staff. Must become proficient in understanding CPL 160.59 and draft and sign answering affirmations. Required to assist the public who come to the office to serve a CPL 160.59 motion/application and be able to provide the proper guidance as to sufficiency of the motion/application and be able to explain the steps after the motion is served on the District Attorney. Required to develop and present lectures to professional and legal staff on topics that may be helpful to the staff. Work collaboratively with the Litigation Training Bureau. Job Responsibilities: Assist the Chief of Professional Staff Training and Development Bureau with training professional and legal staff. Develop new training programs (legal and professional development) for Professional Staff including but not limited to creating training materials such as PowerPoint and necessary training guides on various topics. Monitor Bureau training coordinator's tasks, staff productivity and work utilization information. Stay informed about changes in the law and brief the team on any updates. Manage the activation and deactivation of staff on the DCAS NYCityLearn system and approve staff to attend DCAS classes based on the established office protocol. Qualifications: A Juris Doctor degree. Must be an attorney in good standing and have felony hearing and trial (to verdict) experience or have an appellate background having had arguments in the Appellate Division and the Court of Appeals. Must have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a District Attorney’s Office. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with general court services and functions. Familiar with or can quickly develop an understanding of the Office’s discovery protocol established in 2021. This includes the ability to properly label case documents, bookmark using Adobe Pro, share documents via OneDrive, and download from ECMS using both the old and new methods. Candidates should also be familiar with the rules regarding downloading BWC footage and able to create and complete the discovery checklist as well as the NYCityLearn training system created by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services. Strong understanding of CPL §160.59 and §160.57 and ability to monitor incoming motions diligently. They should learn every aspect of handling a §160.59 motion, including but not limited to creating case folders, navigate the digital management systems, review motions and applications, conduct legal research, draft the People's responses, and review and sign responses drafted by training coordinators before filing. Assist members of the public who come to the office to submit a §160.59 motion or application. They should be able to provide proper guidance on the sufficiency and completeness of the motion or application, explain how to make necessary corrections, and outline the steps following the submission of the motion to the District Attorney. Ability to effectively speak at community events to explain the process for sealing a criminal record under §160.59. Proficient in drafting proper summaries and complaints, recognizing when complaints are facially insufficient or summaries are inadequate. Familiarity with the functioning of the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, preferred. U.S. Citizenship and New York State residency are mandatory as of the first day of employment.
