Job Description
Overview
The SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a hands-on position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
- Strong knowledge of RDBMS concepts, SQL, MS SQL Server, and MS SQL Reporting Server.
- Strong knowledge of indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration and patching.
- Performance tuning and identifying performance bottlenecks.
- Control Access permissions and privileges.
- Ensure data requirements are clearly defined and consistent with solution objectives.
- Demonstrated expertise with query optimization, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Supports and develops MS SQL scripts, stored procedures, reports (MSSQL Reporting Services), and packages to meet business needs.
- SSRS - design, build and support reports.
- Transactional and Merge Replication functionality, distribution database, snapshot and distribution agents.
- Audit and ensure the SQL environment is secured according to industry secure best practices.
- Ensure the database environment meets the disaster recovery and business continuity requirements including testing back-up and recovery plans.
- Experience with complex replication topologies.
- Ability to perform SQL Server database software installations and performance tuning.
- Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies.
- Must be professional, self-motivated, innovative and detail oriented with a willingness to work in a team environment.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
- Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
- Experience with Scrum and Agile methodologies.
- Adhere to project timelines and deliverable.
- Effectively communicate changes or disruptions to the schedule focusing on alignment of expectations.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Understands and observes all safety guidelines and assure quality and safety by complying with all appropriate policies and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining clean, orderly, and hazard-free work areas.
- Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter, and be detail oriented.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
- Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
- Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.
- Flexible, team player, get-it-done personality.
- Ability to organize and plan work independently in a rapidly changing environment.
- Multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams.
- MCTS, MCITP, MSCA, MCSE and/or MVP certifications a plus.
- Experience with NIST 800-171, CIS Security Controls, PCI and HIPPA a plus.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience required.
