Public Relations and Communications Specialist

Varnum LLP seeks an experienced Public Relations and Communications Specialist to join our dynamic Marketing and Business Development Team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of public relations experience , a proven track record of successful media outreach, and exemplary writing skills. This role involves close collaboration with the firm's Business Development Managers, CMO, and practice teams to enhance Varnum's visibility and reputation through various media channels.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategic public relations plans to support the firm's marketing and business development objectives.
  • Successfully pitch media to secure quotes, interviews, and feature stories in prominent publications.
  • Write, edit, and proofread press releases, marketing collateral, award nominations, and other communication materials.
  • Collaborate with business development managers and practice teams to define visibility goals and measure ROI.
  • Manage relationships with media contacts and maintain a comprehensive media database.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of video marketing strategies.
  • Monitor media coverage and industry trends to inform public relations strategies and opportunities.
  • Prepare ad hoc internal and external communications, including newsletters, articles, and announcements.
  • Ensure consistency and quality of messaging across all communication platforms.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in public relations, preferably within a professional services or law firm environment.
  • Proven success in pitching media and securing coverage in reputable publications.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in crafting compelling press releases, marketing materials, and award nominations.
  • Understanding of media relations, the news cycle, and industry trends.
  • Proficiency and awareness of utilizing social media platforms for public relations purposes.
  • Strong collaborative skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Creativity and a proactive approach to identifying and leveraging PR opportunities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
