Job Description
Princeton and Rutgers Neurology is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Imaging Prior Authorization Specialist responsible for ensuring all prior authorizations are obtained and completed accurately before imaging services are performed. The role involves working with insurance companies, verifying paperwork, and collaborating with clinical contacts to facilitate efficient authorization processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Obtain and verify all necessary paperwork required by insurance companies to secure prior authorizations for imaging services.
Submit and follow up on prior authorizations with payers through electronic, telephonic, and/or fax communications.
Escalate cases to peer-to-peer review, when necessary, in collaboration with designated clinical contacts.
Prioritize urgent cases to meet deadlines and ensure timely submission of authorizations.
Document all important information regarding verification, pre-certification, and upfront collections in the registration system.
Manage a workload of 40+ daily preauthorization submissions while maintaining high performance standards.
Communicate challenges and potential impacts to the management team and propose solutions.
Provide outstanding customer service to physician referral organizations, internal teams, and patients.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes.
Excellent organizational and data interpretation skills.
Ability to problem-solve using good judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
Strong time management skills to maintain productivity in a high-stress environment.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in a fast-paced, high call-volume setting.
Knowledge of insurance contracts, reimbursement processes, and insurance websites.
Ability to quickly and accurately learn new systems and processes.
Self-motivated with a desire for continuous improvement.
Team player who can also work independently.
Proficiency with computers and related software.
