The Role You Play

As a Peer Support Provider, you will use your unique experiences with a behavioral/mental health condition to assist and support others currently experiencing similar conditions. You will assist adult clients by enhancing their ability to make independent choices and take a proactive role in their own treatment plans.

  • The Day-to-Day
    1. Assist clients with developing a network for information and support from others with similar experiences
    2. Enhance client ability to make independent and proactive treatment choices – discuss concerns and questions with clinicians
    3. Act as a mentor to clients in appropriately responding to everyday challenges
    4. Ensure that services provided are part of a client’s documented treatment plan
  • Other Duties as Assigned
    1. Advocate for client rights and community integration
    2. Meet documentation requirements in a timely manner
    3. Drive to community settings to provide services or meet program needs

Who You Are

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, flexible, and enjoys working independently with the support of a care team. You should have a passion for helping people and the creativity to develop individual and group activities for your clients.

  • Required
    1. Must be at least 18 years of age, high school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred
    2. MUST have current or past life experience receiving mental health services
      • In line with Peer Support Certification guidelines, applicants must be in stable recovery. Pawnee defines recovery as having graduated from an ARS program or currently in a maintenance phase of services.
    3. Strong oral and written English communication skills
    4. Basic computer skills
    5. Valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance
  • Preferred
    1. Current certification as a Peer Specialist (CPS)
      • Will become certified within one year of employment
    2. Experience with Microsoft Office software

Results of criminal and all other applicable background checks must meet the approval of Pawnee Mental Health Services.
