The Special Projects Coordinator is an exciting opportunity to join the Parks and Recreation team in a dynamic, flexible role. Reporting to the Director of Parks and Recreation, this position plays a pivotal role in shaping new initiatives, collecting data, crafting impactful policies, and documenting key processes. Appointed by the Mayor in consultation with the Administrative Assistant, the Recreation Coordinator under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, is responsible for the organization, supervision, and evaluation of the specific recreation program for which they are responsible and/or assigned.
The Recreation Coordinator shall be chosen solely on the basis of their executive and administrative qualifications in the profession of parks and recreation, as shown by the adequacy of their technical training and their successful experience in parks and recreation.
Qualifications: - Has proven ability in oral and written communications.
- Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in general.
- Bachelor's degree in recreation or a related field preferred; completion of secondary education or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Sufficient knowledge of the professional field to carry out a full range of varied responsibilities and discharge the accountability required of the Recreation Coordinator.
Part-time position, up to 28 hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling Essential Functions of the Position - Research and Data Collection

- Gather, analyze, and present data that helps our team make informed, community-centered decisions.
- Collaborate with team members to understand departmental needs and provide valuable insights to guide policy.
- Policy Development and Documentation
- Write clear, effective policies that enhance operations and support our commitment to excellence and community service.
- Document processes and procedures, creating easy-to-follow guides and resources for team members and stakeholders.
- Assist in developing new documentation frameworks to keep the department organized, efficient, and ready to grow.
- Special Projects and Initiatives
- Support a variety of unique projects, from developing new program proposals to exploring innovative community engagement ideas.
- Contribute to strategic planning efforts, helping to turn visionary concepts into practical, actionable steps.
- Manage time-sensitive tasks with creativity and precision, ensuring each project's success
Working Conditions and Equipment Operated - Part-time position, up to 28 hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling
- Some remote work may be possible, with occasional on-site collaboration.
- The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); ascends and/or descends stairs; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 30 lbs or less.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered light work.

Minimum Acceptable Characteristics, Licensure and/or Certification - A knack for research and a love for diving into data.
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to explain complex information in an easy-to-understand way.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and enthusiastic about taking on new challenges.
- Experience with policy development, data collection, or similar fields preferred.
