Purpose:

Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialists support others in their recovery and wellness journey by providing hope and inspiration, sharing their experiences with and knowledge of the behavioral health system, and helping make lifestyle changes that lead to better whole-health outcomes.

Job Summary:

The Parent & Family Peer Support Specialist on the Intensive Family Services team will work with youth and their families in individual, group, and family settings, assisting them with navigating systems, instilling hope for recovery, and supporting utilization of skills that focus on coping with crisis, managing big emotions, improving relationships and mindfulness.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Build professional relationships with youth and families to assist them in identifying, developing, and practicing skills for recovery.
  • Support parents of youth with intense mental health and/or substance use issues.
  • Offer hope through your own life stories in a conscious, deliberate, and professional way in the service of helping another.
  • Assist in the development of health goals in an individualized, person-centered service plan.
  • Assist families in obtaining services that suit the individual’s recovery needs by providing community resources that may be useful.
  • Help youth and families develop and utilize natural supports in the recovery process.
  • Help parents and families navigate complicated systems: social services, justice systems, school systems.
  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely documentation per clinical and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Promote, support, and demonstrate MHP’s mission, vision, and values through behavior, job performance and adherence to policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of programs and business processes.
  • Work evening hours to meet families and youth when they are available.

What We Need:

  • Previous experience working with teens and families.
  • Must have lived experience receiving mental health and/or substance use services.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Provide professional presentations of client’s needs and recommendations for care planning.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary setting and advocate for the needs and goals of clients and families with professional respect for and understanding of standards of practice and system constraints.
  • Peer Support Certificate or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire required.
  • Must be 21 years old, have a safe driving record, a current Colorado driver’s license and ability to travel within Boulder and Broomfield Counties.
  • Bicultural/Bilingual (Spanish) candidates encouraged to apply!
