Job Summary:
To promote and maintain the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students and staff in the school setting. The Health Clerk assists with the management of school health services, supports student learning through health advocacy, and ensures compliance with state and district health regulations.
Education, Certification, and Licensure:
· Current Illinois License — Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
· Pediatric or school nursing experience preferred
· Knowledge of first aid, CPR, and AED procedures and techniques
· Willingness to obtain State of Illinois Vision and Hearing Screening Certification
· Familiarity with clerical and record-keeping procedures
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, patience, and courtesy
· Understanding of universal health precautions and infection control
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
· Knowledge of Illinois immunization requirements and student health regulations
· Basic understanding of child growth and development
· Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student health records and information
· Dependable , flexible , and able to work independently
· Willingness to travel between school sites within the district
· Ability to problem-solve, prioritize, and multitask in a busy school environment
Experience:
· Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in a medical, clinical, pediatric, or school health setting preferred
· Experience in record management and confidential documentation
· Experience collaborating with students, parents, educators, and healthcare providers
· Prior experience with student information systems or electronic health record (EHR) software preferred
· Experience managing first aid, chronic conditions, and emergency situations in a fast-paced environment
Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:
· Provide basic first aid and emergency care to students and staff in accordance with established protocols
· Administer medications and monitor for side effects as prescribed by physicians and approved by parents/guardians
· Assist in the screening and assessment of students’ health needs under supervision of the certified school nurse
· Maintain accurate and confidential student health records and documentation in compliance with state and district guidelines
· Track and ensure compliance with immunization and health examination requirements
· Notify parents/guardians regarding health concerns, injuries, or immunization deficiencies
· Support the management of chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies) in collaboration with school nurse and staff
· Monitor and report communicable diseases as required by state regulations
· Maintain inventory of health office supplies and equipment
· Support health-related education and awareness initiatives for students and staff
· Perform clerical and administrative tasks related to health services as assigned
· Participate in professional development related to school health and safety
· Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming health office environment

Terms of Employment:
Salary is based on market comparisons as determined by the Superintendent and Board of Education.
Twelve-month work year.

Work Environment:
School health office setting within an elementary or junior high school. Frequent interaction with students, parents, and staff. May require lifting or assisting students in distress or with mobility challenges. Exposure to communicable illnesses or bodily fluids (with appropriate protective measures)
