Job Description

Salary: $130,000 - 150,000/year

We are seeking a skilled Composite Materials Engineer to join our aerospace division. As a crucial member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and implementation of advanced composite materials for aerospace applications. Your expertise will contribute directly to the creation of lightweight, durable, and high-performance components that are essential for the next generation of aircraft.

Responsibilities
  • Composite Material Selection: Evaluate and select appropriate composite materials (fibers, resins, additives) based on performance requirements, including strength, weight, and durability.
  • Material Characterization: Conduct testing and analysis to characterize material properties such as tensile strength, modulus, fatigue resistance, and thermal conductivity.
  • Process Development: Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for composite materials, including lay-up techniques, curing methods, and quality control procedures.
  • Structural Design Support: Collaborate with aerospace engineers to integrate composite materials into structural designs, ensuring compliance with performance and safety standards.
  • Prototype Development: Lead or support the fabrication of prototype parts and assemblies using composite materials, from initial concept through to testing and validation.
  • Failure Analysis: Investigate and resolve issues related to material or manufacturing defects, providing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in composite materials and manufacturing technologies, and apply findings to enhance product performance and efficiency.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all composite materials and processes adhere to relevant aerospace regulations and standards (e.g., FAA, MIL, ASTM).
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of material specifications, test results, and development processes. Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal teams and external stakeholders.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's or PhD preferred.
  • Proven experience in the design, development, and application of composite materials in aerospace or related industries.
  • Proficiency in composite material characterization techniques and testing methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of composite manufacturing processes, including autoclave curing, resin infusion, and compression molding.
  • Familiarity with CAD software for structural design and analysis (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
