Software Development Engineer - Testing

Contract-to-Hire

Reston, VA or Washington, DC (1 day/week)

$68-72k depending on experience

We are seeking an entry level Software Development Engineer to join our Health Insurance client's dynamic IT team. You'll have the opportunity to design, develop, and maintain cutting-edge test automation frameworks that drive efficiency and reliability across various lines of business. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or similar combination of educational/professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience working with Java, Python, or other software development language in either academic or internship experience.
  • Basic understanding of test automation frameworks and principles.
  • Proficiency in designing and developing RESTful APIs.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with UI, API, and backend testing.
  • Basic knowledge of accessible UI development.
  • Experience with DevOps pipelines, particularly Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD.
  • Knowledge of containerized environments and their configuration.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and enhance reusable, scalable test automation frameworks for functional, API, and performance testing across different projects and teams.
  • Implement and maintain automation test scripts for UI, API, and backend validations.
  • Ensure seamless test execution by integrating automated tests with DevOps pipelines using Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD.
  • Build robust test execution strategies, incorporating parallel execution and integrating reporting to Jenkins, JIRA, or custom reporting tools.
  • Set up and configure containerized test execution environments.
  • Collaborate with development, product, and DevOps teams.
  • Assess the current test automation framework and identify areas for improvement.
  • Build custom utilities and libraries to improve test reliability, reduce maintenance, and simplify test creation.
  • Develop and maintain testing infrastructure, including test data management solutions and environment setup automation.
  • Expand CI/CD integration with proper parallelization, failure analysis, and notification systems.
  • Prepare well-maintained test framework documentation.
  • Design and develop RESTful APIs.
  • Assist in developing accessible UI for test data requests.
