We're ZABS Place - a thrift boutique in Matthews, NC with a mission of training and employing local young adults with special talents. We offer an individualized training program to empower these individuals, equipping them with valuable job skills to become key contributors to society.

We're all about learning, sharing, making mistakes, growing, making dreams come true, and having tons of fun. Our Job Coaches work with our Trainees and Interns to help them recognize their strengths and learn and master skills to achieve their individual goals. We're all about asking questions to get minds in motion.

In this Full-Time position here's what you'll do:  

• Learn: You’ll need to learn and understand the standards of the jobs your Trainees are doing so you can guide them accurately.
• Walk Backwards: With your eye on their goal, you’ll help teach skills so they’ll be job ready when they graduate from our training program.
• Be a Ninja: Every job is made up of many tasks and that can be overwhelming to learn. You’ll need to break down the tasks into steps to help them master the skills more easily.
• Model : You’ll show how a professional behaves while at work.
• Walk the Balance Beam: You’ll provide one-on-one support, encourage independence, and observe how well your Trainees are learning. Sometimes you’ll need to teach a new task and show how it’s done, other times you’ll need to step back, watch, and be a cheerleader. It’s all a balance.
• Be a Team Player: You'll be working with our Training Program Director to execute individualized training plans, recognize abilities and interests in our Trainees, share Trainee progress, and identify areas where more training is needed.

• Experience: This position is not a good fit for someone who has never coached, taught, worked with, or spent significant time with someone who has an intellectual or developmental difference.
• Reliability: Our Trainees wait months to join our program and we need you to be there for them consistently so they can get the most out of their training.
• Professionalism: ZABS Place has a unique personality and we love when it shows, but we always keep things professional and work-related.
• Multi-tasking: We are an ever changing environment with many Trainees working overlapping shifts. You’ll need to support multiple individuals and vary your coaching style to meet their individual needs and personalities.
• Comfort with Technology: We embrace technology to help our Trainees learn more easily. Computers, apps, and other technology are important daily tools at ZABS Place.
• Optimism & Flexibility: We are a “can-do” workplace that views life through a positive lens. With things changing frequently at ZABS Place, you must be nimble, have a growth mindset, and help our Trainees learn to navigate change so they can be successful in the World.
