Job Title: Funeral Attendant
Department: Funeral Services
Reports To: Funeral Director or Manager
Location: Colonial Rose Chapel & Cremation (Stockton, CA) & Park View Cemetery & Funeral Home (Manteca, CA)
Hours: Per diem, typically in blocks of 4 hours or as needed
Job Summary:
The Funeral Attendant provides respectful, compassionate, and professional support to grieving families and funeral home staff during services and visitations. This role involves preparing the location for services, assisting with transportation of the deceased, guiding guests, and ensuring that all elements of the ceremony proceed smoothly and respectfully.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with setup and cleanup of visitation rooms, chapels, or graveside sites.
Transport caskets, floral arrangements, and other service items as needed.
Greet and direct guests upon arrival, offering information and comfort.
Escort family members and pallbearers during services.
Drive funeral vehicles such as hearses or limousines as required.
Maintain cleanliness and presentation of funeral home facilities.
Assist funeral directors with logistical duties before, during, and after services.
Ensure safety and order during processions and services.
Follow all legal and ethical standards, including privacy and cultural sensitivity.
Handle remains and service materials with dignity and care.
Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Professional demeanor, appearance, and behavior.
Ability to lift, carry, and transport up to 75 pounds.
Compassionate and composed in emotionally challenging situations.
Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings & weekends.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed both indoors (funeral homes, churches) and outdoors (cemeteries).
Requires standing for extended periods and physical activity.
Exposure to emotionally sensitive environments and grieving individuals.
