SUMMARY:

The Fire Alarm Designer will act as the primary designer for all fire alarm installations facilitated by AAA Fire Protection, ensuring that designs are compliant with relevant codes, standards, and client specifications. This role will collaborate with project managers, project engineers, customers, general contractors, etc. to deliver high-quality fire alarm system designs tailored to the unique needs of each project.

DUTIES:

  • Design fire alarm systems for new construction, renovation, and retrofit projects, ensuring compliance with NFPA 72, local fire codes, and other relevant regulations.
  • Develop system layouts, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications for fire alarm installations.
  • Assist in the creation of design standards for AAA Fire Protection.
  • Assist in the permit submittal process as needed and directed by the Alarm Division Manager.
  • Conduct site surveys and assess building requirements to determine appropriate fire alarm system solutions.
  • Prepare detailed design documentation, including drawings, system descriptions, and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators and installation teams to ensure seamless project execution and successful system integration.
  • Review and interpret building plans, blueprints, and specifications to create accurate designs.
  • Work closely with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to clarify design intent and provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, technology, and regulatory changes to ensure designs remain up-to-date and compliant.
  • Perform calculations related to system design, including but not limited to load calculations, battery sizing, and circuit analysis.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven experience designing fire alarm systems, and a strong understanding of relevant code references including but not limited to NFPA 72, IBC, IFC, NEC and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in fire alarm design software (e.g., AutoCAD, FireCAD, Bluebeam, Visio, or other fire alarm design tools).
  • Strong understanding of fire alarm system components, including control panels, detectors, alarms, notification devices, and integration with other building systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, building plans, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • FAS NICET III preferred but not required.
