  • Conduct advanced risk assessment, pricing, and coverage evaluation for complex environmental exposures, utilizing tools such as risk profiling models and loss analyses.
  • Collaborate with Home Office, Legal, and Claims teams to drive product development and address emerging environmental issues.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters, fostering skill development in environmental underwriting.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor offerings, and legal/regulatory changes to inform portfolio decisions and maintain competitiveness.
  • Achieve financial targets (premium growth, loss ratio, retention) for assigned portfolio.
  • Support the achievement of continued profitability, growth and/or operational efficiencies for a product line through assessment of competitor product offerings and market appetite
  • Identify and take corrective action and/or collaborate with the appropriate area within the organization based on individual risk characteristics identified through broker reviews, large loss analysis, risk control, etc.
  • Coache, lead and develop more junior underwriters and direct the development of coverage and associated exposure training.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years industry experience (Underwriting, Brokerage, Product Line Management), with specialized environmental coverage and product knowledge, particularly for higher-hazard, complex risks, with a focus on site exposures, distressed premises risks, as well as products liability and products pollution.
  • Proven track record of broker development, negotiation, and portfolio profitability in the Environmental and/or Excess & Surplus (E&S) insurance market.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess complex risks and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Location agnostic but the ideal candidate will be near a major metro area. A willingness to travel up to 25% for broker visits, industry events, etc. is crucial.
  • Ability to understand and execute strategic priorities including; pricing strategy, agent strategy, rate strategy, underwriting appetite, limit management and mix of business.
  • Strong knowledge of the environmental market and demonstrated marketing and business development experience within the wholesale distribution channel.
  • Advanced analytical skills to interpret business information drawn from multiple sources to take critical account decisions regarding quality of risk.
  • Keen influencing, persuasion and negotiation skills are essential.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel|Word|SharePoint, etc.) with demonstrated high accuracy output.

Why Join AmTrust E&S?
