Director of Data Science
Location: Preferably Bay Area (1-2 days/week in office), but remote with travel is possible
Salary: $240,000-$275,000 base + equity
Work Authorization: U.S. Citizen or Green Card required

Overview:
A high-growth tech company in the business travel space is seeking a Director of Data Science to lead a core team focused on machine learning, pricing, personalization, and lead conversion. This role demands strong people leadership, technical depth, and a startup-ready mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of senior and staff data scientists.

• Drive roadmap development for data science initiatives across product areas.

• Collaborate with engineering, analytics, and product teams.

• Guide strategic projects like lead scoring and pricing optimization.

• Set high-performance standards, manage performance, and build team structure.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of total experience, including 4+ years in leadership roles.

• Proven ability to manage and grow high-performing teams.

• Hands-on knowledge of machine learning (e.g., Python, SQL) and ability to engage in technical discussions.

• Experience working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

• Strong performance management skills with a willingness to make tough decisions.

Preferred:

• Background in fast-paced, high-growth environments.

• Familiarity with pricing, personalization, or search algorithms.

• Experience scaling immature functions and leading through ambiguity.

Compensation:
Equity offered (typically 20,000-30,000 options/year). Four-year vesting with a one-year cliff.
