Job Description

Provides education as well as plans, coordinates and implements the goals of the Center for Diabetes under the general direction of the Manager and or Program Director. Serves the diabetes population at Tulane Health System (all locations). Assists with education and the care process across the continuum for identified patient/staff population. Collaborates with agencies, hospital and medical staff, and program participants in support of program goals and operations for marketing efforts and coordinates with marketing representatives. Assists with data collection for evaluation and planning. Completes psychosocial assessments and creates treatment plans for patients. Facilitates group education for patients and their families. Will be expected to coordinate education seminars with patients, manage education program schedules, organize and staff events as well as educate medical students and residents in optimal diabetes care. Functions under general supervision by the manager and or program director and physicians subject to a minimum of continuous and direct control. Operates with a reasonable degree of independence.

  • Ability to work well with a variety of faculty, administrators, trainees, and staff
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and to work independently in a high-pressure environment
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
  • Current BLS certification
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) or to be completed within 6 months of hire date
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Nurse
  • Three years clinical experience
  • Experience in the academic setting
  • Bachelor's degree (BS of Nutrition, or BSN)
  • Experience teaching small groups
  • Experience with: Insulin Pumps, Continues Glucose Monitoring Systems, and diabetes medication titration
