Job Summary/Objective:

The Telecommunications Inside Plant (ISP) Technician is a role responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunications infrastructure inside buildings and cabinets. This position requires advanced technical skills and the ability to lead on-site ISP operations, including working with copper and fiber optic systems. The role ensures compliance with technical and safety standards while supporting team members' growth and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute complex tower construction and maintenance activities on-site, installing antennas, and optimizing telecom systems at height.
  • Conduct and supervise testing activities, such as sweep testing, Passive Intermodulation (PIM) testing, and fiber testing, to validate system performance and reliability.
  • Install and maintain ISP-specific infrastructure, including copper and fiber optic cabling, switches, routers, and patch panels, in indoor environments and cabinets.
  • Perform fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing to ensure industry-standard connections with minimal signal loss.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve structured cabling and network issues in both tower systems and Inside Plant environments.
  • Support upgrades, retrofits, and maintenance of ISP systems to align with evolving project requirements.
  • Document all installation, repair, and testing activities for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Maintain OSHA regulations and company-specific EHS protocols on the tower, ensuring safety compliance for all team members.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to address challenges and implement efficient solutions during operations.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of telecommunications construction experience, including leadership roles.

Preferred and Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Certifications in BICSI, FOA, or similar
  • Experience in data centers, telecom rooms, or large-scale enterprise environments
  • OSHA30 certification
  • First Aid AED/CPR certification

Skills Required:

  • Advanced proficiency in interpreting construction drawings, RF data sheets, and technical documentation.
  • Strong leadership abilities to guide team members effectively during tower operations.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving network connectivity issues within structured cabling systems.
  • Strong familiarity with ISP equipment, such as routers, switches, patch panels, and cable management tools.
  • Hands-on experience with low-voltage power systems (-48v DC), including proper grounding and termination procedures.
  • Clear communication skills to relay instructions, articulate project needs, and document progress accurately.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, particularly in high-pressure, elevated work environments.
  • Familiar with AC & DC Power - 120 / 240 AC - -48 DC Power
  • Basic understanding of upconverters, BBU's, Router, Westtell or Site boss alarms, etc.
  • Batteries: Knowledge of NICad Batteries
  • Knowledge of wire size and type selection for various voltage and amperage requirements
  • Knowledge of wire size and conduit fill calculations in accordance with NEX standards

Direct/Indirect Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Acts as a leader on site and provides mentorship to junior team members.

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel Required:

  • Ability to work in both elevated outdoor environments and confined indoor spaces, such as telecom rooms or data centers.
  • Comfortable working on ladders, in ceilings, or with live power systems (-48v DC), while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Travel is required 50% of the time
