TechnoServe is seeking proposals from qualified consultants for the following scope of work. Background

TechnoServe has been selected as a preferred strategic sustainability partner by a major global consumer-packaged goods company to deliver its ambitious corporate commitment on regenerative agriculture (“Regen Ag”) , also contributing to its net zero carbon agenda. Partnering with an industry-leading company to drive the transformation towards regenerative farming systems across its global supply chains is directly aligned with TechnoServe's Regenerate 30 vision. We will help strengthen the resilience of the farmers and businesses that operate within the market system, while also contributing to the overall sustainability of that system by delivering positive outcomes on soil health, water resources and biodiversity.

A key component of our support is the design and implementation of Regenerative Agriculture projects with suppliers and farmers around the world. Bringing the strategy to life requires working with implementation partners to design and deliver projects on the ground with the company's suppliers, and with the farmers that their suppliers source from. The process for each project involves an initial feasibility assessment and project design phase, followed by 3-5 years of technical assistance and co-investment. The scale of the company's sourcing footprint implies launching at least 30+ projects per year by 2027.

The company has engaged TechnoServe to design multiple programs, including with their strategic suppliers in LATAM, Europe and India , addressing regenerative practices while also contributing to reduce the overall carbon footprint.

Consultant Role

• Short-term team member management (Fellows, Consultants, Technical Assistance Providers)

• Develop scope of work, milestones and deliverables of Fellows, Consultants and TA Providers for planned project.
• Coordinate procurement and contracting processes of Fellows, Consultants and TA Providers (coordinate with HQ procurement, HQ Fellows team)
  • Update and maintain Fellows and Consultants database
  • Support Fellows, Consultants and TA Providers with:
    • Onboarding (general introduction to TNS, general questions)
    • Travel logistics (e.g., connecting and coordinating with the local TNS team on accommodation, logistics, safety & security plans as required, ISOS, etc.)
    • How to enter expenses and following the right codes to charge, any issues with payment / reimbursements
  • Monitor Fellows and Consultants progress against contract timelines and deliverables
  • Support filling out and reviewing the contractor payment templates (i.e., invoice, timesheet, expense report); navigate potential payment challenges with finance and/or procurement team
• Study budget management
  • Support development of budgets for implementation projects
  • Support financial management processes including tracking of funding codes and expenses
  • Conduct periodic budget reviews providing updates on budget vs. actuals
• MEL
  • Support tracking of key KPIs
• Coordinate partner field trips
  • Manage logistics for field visits (e.g., scope, dates, participants)
  • Coordinate agenda development
• Partner and client contracting
  • Coordinate with HQ Contracts/Legal team on reports submission, POs, invoices, payments, contract signature, etc.
• Secondary research and select analysis to support program designs
  • Prepare initial profile of crop/geography/supplier to inform pre-kick off meetings with suppliers

Skills and Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in international development, economics, business administration, or other relevant subject
• At least 3 years of project management or relevant experience
• Outstanding presentation and written communication skills including prior experience writing and editing donor-facing deliverables
• Demonstrated leadership skills, teamwork and relationship building
• Strong computer skills, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Ability to work independently, flexibly, and responsively to deadlines
• Ability to resolve quality issues and adapt to changing operational conditions and contexts
• Ability to pivot, make quick and sound decisions when there are risks or change in priorities
• Has a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and can-do attitude
• Entrepreneurial mindset and passion for identifying gaps and proposing solutions for continuous improvement
• Strong project management skills including the ability to anticipate demand and manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting tight deadlines
• Proven team player with strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills
• Proficiency in English required. Additional language skills are preferred (particularly Spanish, but Portuguese is also beneficial)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certificate in project management a plus
• Experience in grant management and compliance procedures preferred

Logistics

If travel is required, TechnoServe will cover travel-related costs including international airfare, in-country accommodation, in-country transportation, a per diem for living expenses, visas and vaccinations, and emergency evacuation insurance.

The Consultant will report into TechnoServe's Strategic Initiatives team and will also collaborate with in-country teams. While under the supervision of the Strategic Initiatives team, the bulk of the Consultant's work will be independently driven and executed.

The team currently manages TechnoServe's global relationships with Partner, Anglo American, Walmart, ABInBev, Syngenta, The Coca Cola Company, Cargill, John Deere, Kellogg's, Visa, Mastercard, Mars, and Unilever.
