FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Public Speaking Adjunct Instructor. Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km 2 ) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area. JOB SUMMARY To create a pool of qualified applicants, FVSU's Department of Arts and Communications accepts applications for adjunct faculty to teach public speaking courses throughout the year. Applications are kept in the pool for the duration of the academic year. The department seeks applicants for an Adjunct Instructor to teach in-person, hybrid, and online public speaking courses as needed. These courses include 15-week semesters (Fall, Spring) and 8-week summer courses. Employment is not guaranteed beyond the semester course assignment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching, committed to student success, and adaptable in using diverse learning resources and technologies. MAJOR DUTIES Teach courses such as Introduction to Communication Studies, Interpersonal Communication, and Public Speaking. Develop and deliver engaging, relevant, and accessible course content. Create a stimulating classroom environment that encourages participation and success. Maintain accurate student records and provide reasonable accommodations per ADA guidelines. Respond promptly to student communications and ensure access to course information. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in communication studies or a related field. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with diverse student populations and faculty. Proficiency in instructional technology and learning management systems (e.g., Desire2Learn, Banner Web). Commitment to culturally responsive teaching strategies and practices. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS College teaching experience. Availability to teach during afternoon and/or evening hours.
