Job Description

At Flinn Scientific, our mission is to get students of all ages excited about science by making learning a fun, hands-on experience and our Kit Assembly team is critical to helping us do that!

We're looking for a 1st shift (6:30 AM- 3:00 PM) Material Handler Seasonal to join our warehouse team which is dedicated to moving material throughout our facility safely and efficiently. The role is expected to run through the end of May, with a potential for extension depending on business and operational needs.

BIG PICTURE VIEW

You will use a variety of equipment to move and put away products throughout our warehouse, such as a forklift, cart or pallet jack. We use RF scanners to clock in and out of jobs, queue up picking paths, and pick product. You may be required to work occasional scheduled overtime and/or Saturdays during peak work periods.

We take our teams safety very seriously, so you will be required to complete all required safety training (such as equipment driving tests) and demonstrate a commitment to safety through your behaviors and actions.

We want you to have a long and successful career with us, so you will have the opportunity to learn processes across our warehouse, including: Picking, Packing, Truck Loading, Stocking, Receiving, and Inventory Control.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:
At your start-of-shift huddle, your supervisor and team lead will talk through the teams work plan for the day and assign each person to a task. You may be asked to switch to different tasks throughout the day based on work progress and priority. Those tasks 
may include:

  • Arranging stock in a specified sequence for put away by teammates.
  • Sorting and placing items on racks / shelves, or in bins according to bar code 
    storage system.
  • Opening boxes and other containers to verify the product you are picking or putting away matches the product on shelf and is properly labeled.
  • Using basic math skills to efficiently pick product for example, if tasked with picking 1000 paper clips and that are stored in boxes of 25, you would calculate how many boxes of 25 are required to get to 1000
  • Moving materials and items from production areas to storage or other locations
  • Using RF or voice-directed equipment to accurately record product locations and 
    enter storage records.
  • Maintaining inventory in orderly and organized manner.
  • Filling requests for items (verbal / written) and delivering them to appropriate 
    locations.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • 6 months -1 year of related experience or training preferred.
  • Prior Forklift certification is preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB

  • You will be on your feet for most of the day standing or walking and will be regularly required use hands & fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • Team members are required to wear appropriate safety shoes and other personal protective equipment where necessary (provided or reimbursed by Flinn)
  • You will be occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • You will regularly lift and/or move 30-50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • The warehouse temperature fluctuates with outside temperatures, as it is heated but it is not air-conditioned. We have a robust heat mitigation program to protect our team during warmer months
